Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stressed on the need for the youth to realize the immense potential of agriculture and take up farming.

Aug 4, 2020: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal held a meeting with a group of progressive farmers associated with cooperative farming models like Kanyaka Multipurpose Farm, Sitajakhala Milk Cooperative Committee and Pabhoi Greens at his residence on Monday. The discussed about the scope of agriculture, fishery, dairy farming, poultry, seed production and other such allied sectors in the state.



Saying that only through development of agriculture and allied sectors Assam can truly become Atma Nirbhar, Sonowal stressed on the need for the youth to realize the immense potential of agriculture and take up farming. Appreciating the successful examples shown by cooperative farming models like Kanyaka Multipurpose Farm, Sitajakhala Milk Cooperative Committee and Pabhoi Greens, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that these examples of progressive farming would inspire revolutionary development in the agriculture sector and also help the government to prepare roadmap for the future.

The farmers’ group apprised the Chief Minister about a detailed plan for Assam to become self-reliant in production of agriculture and other allied sectors and urged the Chief Minister to take up long and short term plans for rapid development of those sectors. Sonowal assured the farmers’ group that such long term and short term plans would be taken up soon for development agriculture sector.
