November 30, 2020: The primary schools in Assam will be reopened from next year.

Education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma said that classes from nursery to class 6 will start from January 1 next. However, the students' attendance will not be counted. The education department will issue the Standard Operating Procedure(SOP) in this regard soon.

He also informed that the hostels can also be reopened from December 15. Only final year students will be allowed to stay in the hostels.

The hostels have remained closed since March last due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
