Aug 10, 2020: An elderly couple lost their lives in a devastating fire in the heart of Jorhat town late Sunday night. Three others sustained burn injury in the fire. It took several hours to bring the fire under control. The incident occurred at Thakurbari area at around 12.30 PM.





75-years old Satyanarayan Agarwal and 72 years old Gomti Devi were killed in the fire after they were trapped in the house. The fire engulfed the entire house within a few moments. The injured have been sent to AMCH in Dibrugarh. They have been identified as Mahendra Agarwal, Krishna Gopal Agarwal and Usha Singhi. The fire was so devastating that it took 13 fire tenders from State fire service, ONGC, Air force, NRL and some neighbouring areas several hours to bring it under control.

The fire spread so rapidly that the victims didn't get a chance to escape. The incident sparked panic and fear among the locals. The damage caused by the fire has not yet been established. Prima facie the incident seems to be caused by an electric short circuit.
