August 30, 2020: The two mediators of the Bodo Peace Accord have moved the court against the government's inaction towards implementing the Bodo Peace Accord.

Rajkumar Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech and Thulunga Basumatari, who had mediated between the various factions of the NDFB and other Bodo groups and the Centre, have levelled serious allegations of dishonouring the agreement against the government. They have filed a Public Interest Litigation against this through Northeast Heritage Foundation at the Gauhati High Court.

The duo came down heavily on the government for not implementing the Accord even after 8 months of signing it. They said that as per Clause 3 of the Accord, the Bodo and tribal villages had to be incorporated into the Bodoland Territorial Region. But the commission for this purpose has not yet been formed even after 7 months. Similarly, no rehabilitation measures for the NDFB militants has been taken and they are not even getting their stipend.

The two mediators threatened that if the government attitude towards honouring the Accord does not change, then they will be forced to raise the Divide Assam 50-50 once again. The appealed to the Centre to withdraw the criminal cases against surrendered militants and release their stipend as soon as possible.

The Bodo Peace Accord was signed on January 27 this year between the Centre, Assam Government, BTC administration, NDFB, ABSU and other Bodo organisations in the presence of Ami Shah. Mech and Basumatari, under their NGO Northeast Heritage Foundation, had played a key role as mediators in bringing the NDFB to the negotiation table.
