Stephane Dujarric, the Spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said the UN is ready to help the Indian government if required.





"Nearly four million people have been displaced in the state of Assam in India and neighbouring Nepal due to heavy flooding from monsoon rains, with the death toll at 189. The United Nations stands ready to support the Government of India if required," he said.



India so far has declined international help offered to deal with its natural disasters.



Till Monday, over 24 lakh people from 24 districts of the state have been affected by the fresh wave of flood. It has also claimed lives of 85 persons.
