April 9, 2020: In a tragic incident amid lockdown, two children including a man lost their lives after falling into a pit filled with poisonous gas in Namrup on Thursday.



The incident happened at Lalpaguri when the children were playing and fell into the pit leading to their death while the man who went to rescue them later died due the poisonous gas.



The deceased children have been identified as Harijan Sarma, Bijay Kullu and the man as Ganesh Sarma. However, one rescuer was closely saved.



Locals allege that some dishonest business men engaged in stone mining have been digging such pits in the area and despite this the administration is keeping mum. Such pits have already claimed many a life. The latest incident has scared the locals a lot.
