Steps taken by NFR for better customer interface resulted into easier and increased freight transportation to boost local economy

December 22, 2020: In order to improve transportation of freight traffic, NFR has been opening new stations for handling inward and outward goods traffic. Few more railway stations have been opened for freight traffic during last month enabling easier transportation of various goods by customers.



To boost inward freight traffic Komalajari railway station of Tetelia – Byrnihat section under Lumding division has been opened for unloading facility of goods traffic. Belonia Station under Lumding Division has also been opened for handling Parcel traffic including loaded Pacel van for carrying of Power Tiller & Accessories w.e.f. 02.11.2020.



New Mal Jn. station under Alipurduar division has been opened for handling of both outward and inward booking of ballast traffic w.e.f. 09.11.2020. Dangtal station under Alipurduar division has been opened for handling of inward booking of Live Stock traffic w.e.f. 11.11.2020.



Jalalgarh station under Katihar division has been opened for handling of outward Live Stock traffic w.e.f. 11.11.2020. 33 Parcel vans were loaded in November from Jalalgarh generating revenue of Rs. 27 Lakhs approximately.



Further In order to ensure business friendly environment, N.F. Railway started round the clock business hours at Jorhat Town, New Tinsukia and Barpeta Road Goods office w.e.f. 25.11.2020. Earlier the business hours were from 06 to 22 hours.



Discussions were also being held with BCPL and IOCL authorities by the Tinsukia division of NFR to explore the possibility of transporting their products through railway which is not only more eco-friendly but also more economical.



It may be mentioned here that the Business Development Units (BDU) created in all the five divisions of NFR are regularly getting in touch with existing and likely transportation agencies to know the actual need of various industries.



The mobile app namely IR RAILSUGAM mobile app was lauched by the Indian Railways sometimes ago to capture the details of logistic service providers at various loading / unloading terminals throughout Indian Railways through registration. This has provided the much needed link for getting the value added services to freight customers and logistic service providers for services like transportation facility, warehousing facility, labour facility or aggregators etc.



As a result of the various initiatives record 1102 freight rakes have been unloaded at various freight terminals of NFR during November 2020 as against 815 freight rakes unloaded in NFR during November 2019. This is an improvement of about 35.21%.
