September 7, 2020: Three poachers were apprehended on Monday from Hapasara-Korebari in Baksa district. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police, forest department and SSB launched an operation during which the three poachers were nabbed.

The three poachers have been identified as Lankeswar Basumatari, Binod Basumatari and Madan Gayari.

Two elephant tusks, a deer horn, a country-made gun, ammunition and other things were recovered from their possession.

The three were involved in poaching of an elephant at Jamguri forest 2 weeks ago. The tusks were cut away by the trio. They had kept the two tusks at home to sale them later. Getting clue of this, the police, forest department and SSB launched the operation and managed to arrest all the three poachers.

Presently, they are being interrogated at the Simla police station. Police suspect they were involved in earlier poaching cases too.
