December 17, 2020: The polls to the Tiwa Autonomous Council ended on Thursday amidst sporadic incidents of protests.



The polling started from 7.30 AM and ended at 4.30 PM.



The polls were held for 36 seats of the TAC for which 124 candidates are in the fray. Over 80% of the total 3,08,409 voters exercised their franchise in 410 polling booths.



The polls were held in parts of Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and Kamrup (Metro) district.



However, sporadic incidents of protests were reported from several parts of Kamrup-Metro district including Chandrapur, Dimoria, Khetri etc. The non-Tiwa people of these areas opposed the holding of TAC poll in their areas. In some areas, angry people blocked the roads to the polling stations by placing culverts and putting up bamboo barricades.



The BJP is contesting on 35 council seats while its Asom Gana Parishad is contesting on one seat. The counting of votes will be held on December 19.
