September 11, 2020: In two major decisions, the Assam health department has relaxed norms of home quarantine for air passengers and announced to provide financial assistance for cremation of Covid patients from financially weak families.

As per the order, a person who travels outside Assam and returns within 96 hours need not undergo compulsory 10-days home quarantine. However, he will have to undergo Rapid Antigen Test on return. If he tests positive, he will undergo home isolation/treatment in Covid care centre or hospital as per health protocol.

If he tests negative, his swab will be collected for RT-PCR test. He will have to remain in isolation till his RT-PCR test result is declared and an undertaking is submitted by each person to this effect.

If he tests positive in RT-PCR test, he will undergo home isolation/treatment in Covid care centre or hospital as per health protocol. If his result comes negative, the person need not go any further quarantine. The person will also have to strictly comply with hygiene and social distancing norms during his stay outside Assam.

In another decision, the department has decided to bear upto Rs 5000 towards cremation of Covid patients if the family is unable to bear the cost or the relatives do not receive the body. The decision has been taken considering the difficulties faced by the deputy commissioners in cremation of Covid positive patients. The fund for this will be provided by the National Health Mission.
