September 7, 2020: Assam will be doomed if all regional forces don't come under a common umbrella, said jailed Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader Akhil Gogoi.

Talking to reporters at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital on Monday, Gogoi said AASU, KMSS, AJYCP, and all other organisations should have to join hands if they were keen to defeat the BJP-RSS. "I will appeal KMSS, AASU, AJYCP, other tribal organisations and regional parties that if you announce a party on your own, it may not yield result. All the organisations and regional forces must come together and fight under one party, one name and common symbol. If this happen, then BJP-RSS and Congress-AIUDF will be demolished. If this Hindu-Muslim politics stay for another 30-40 years, Assam will be doomed."

On being asked if he has plans to fight the election from jail, Gogoi said that his contesting election was not important. When asked again for his reaction on KMSS announcing him as the chief ministerial candidate, he said he has no such plan as of now.

Gogoi also criticised the "Orunudoi" scheme launched by the state government. "Rs. 830 as lockdown compensation is not sufficient. Each one should be given minimum Rs. 10,000."

He also appealed to the people to carry on the anti-CAA movement.

Gogoi, who is undergoing treatment at the GMCH for over a month now, was taken for some medical tests on Monday.
