November 22, 2020: Three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is no more. The Octogenarian leader breathed his last at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon.

"Our dear leader Tarun Gogoi breathed his last at 5.34 PM", informed Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma.

Gogoi had turned 86 last month. He was put on ventilator support on Saturday and doctors termed the next 48 hours as very critical for his health.

He underwent dialysis for 6 hours on Sunday evening. Doctors planned another dialysis on Monday, but could not do as the condition deteriorated further since the morning.

Gogoi, who had been undergoing treatment in GMCH since early this month due to post-Covid complications, had also been suffering from multiple organ failure.

The team of doctors examining the veteran politician was in constant touch with the experts from AAIMS and were treating him according to their advice.

Gogoi had tested Covid-19 positive on August 26 and had to be treated at GMCH for two months for post-Covid complications. However, barely a few days after his discharge, he had to be re-admitted after his condition worsened.

As soon as the news of his critical condition broke on Saturday, many leaders cutting across party lines visited the GMCH. People also prayed for his recovery at various places of the state.
