December 7, 2020: The fates of 130 candidates of 21 constituencies of Bodoland Territorial Council were sealed in ballot boxes on Monday as the first phase of polls passed off peacefully.

December 7, 2020: The fates of 130 candidates of 21 constituencies of Bodoland Territorial Council were sealed in ballot boxes on Monday as the first phase of polls to the Council passed off peacefully amidst tight security. Unlike previous elections, no untoward incident was reported from any of the constituencies.



Heavy voter turnout was recorded in the polling which concluded at 4.30 PM. The polling was held following all Covid protocols specified by the Election Commission.



Till filing of the report, over 60% polling was recorded. However, the turnout is likely to go up as voting is going on at several polling stations even after 4.30 PM. 



Polling started at 7.30 AM and as the day progressed, voters' turnout gradually increased. Due to good weather, people came out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.



In the first phase, polling was held in 21 constituencies of Udalguri and Baksa districts.



Total 13,59,020 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise. Polling were held in 1739.



In Udalguri, polling was held in 807 polling stations spread across 10 constituencies while polling in 11 constituencies of Baksa were held in 932 polling stations.



A total of 60 and 70 candidates are in fray in Udalgiri and Baksa respectively.



Apart from ruling BPF; BJP, UPPL, Congress and AIUDF are in the fray in this election.



Poll to 19 constituencies of Kokrajhar and Chirang will be held in second phase on December 10.



The Counting of votes will be on December 12.
