April 1, 2020: Eight more people from Assam tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday increasing the tally of coronavirus cases to nine. All the eight who tested positive were linked to the Tablighi Jamat meet in Nizamuddin, Delhi. While four of them tested positive at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, the other four were confirmed positive in Delhi who remained in the national capital after the meet.



Announcing this in a press meet in Guwahati Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Four persons have tested positive for coronavirus in GMCH, they are Arshad Ali, 19 from Nalbari, Md Hajrat Ali, 34, Md Nuruddin 55 and Md Jonab Ali 43 from Jagiroad, all of them attended the Tablighi Jamat meet in Nizamuddin, Delhi."



The other four people who tested positive in Delhi are Naskar Ali, 72 and Baharuddin, 48 both from Baksa, Mustafa Ahmed from Barpeta and Md Ali from Nagaon.



The Minister urged everyone who may have gotten in touch with these patients to come forward and get tested for the virus.



He also stated that the number of coronavirus positive cases may increase in the state in coming days.
