February 9, 2021: The much awaited bridge over river Brahmaputra connecting Jorhat and Majuli is going to be a reality soon. The 8-KM bridge will be completed in 4 years.



"Another great infra project for New India. Construction of one of the most important bridges over the Brahmaputra connecting Jorhat to the sacred river island Majuli, sanctioned by @MORTHIndia". tweeted the office of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.



In another tweet he informed, "Amounting to Rs. 925 crore, the construction time of the 8 KM long project is 4 years. The work has been awarded to M/s UP State Bridge Corporation Ltd."



The proposed bridge will connect Nimatigaht and Kamalabari. Few days ago, Sonowal while inaugurating a heliport in Majuli had said that the construction of the bridge is likely to start by February 20.



The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone of the bridge in February, 2016.
