May 18, 2020: Death toll due to COVID-19 in Assam has risen to three as a 71-year-old man died in Gauhati Medical College And Hospital on Monday.



The patient, Gopindra Ch. Malakar went to Mumbai for cancer treatment and returned to the state recently.



Informing this State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "Extremely sad to share that Gopindra Ch Malakar 71, who returned from Mumbai & had neck cancer Covid passed away at 11.05 am at GMCH owing to respiratory distress. Doctors did their best. DME has reached & DC  informed for other formalities. Heartfelt condolences."



Earlier, a 16-year-old girl who tested positive for COVID-19 died in Guwahati on 7 May and Sri Faizul Haque Barbhuyan from Hailakandi district died on April 10.
