October 28, 2020: Barnali Gogoi of Assam has become the first woman from the state to be commissioned as the Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force.



Gogoi who hails from the Lakhimpur district had joined IAF as a pilot officer on May 27, 1996, and was later promoted to flying officer and flying lieutenant. Recently she got promoted as the Wing Commander of the IAF.



It may be added that, she had bagged the sixteenth position in 1985 matriculation exams and completed her Higher Secondary (Science stream) from Cotton College.



She got her engineering degree in Electronics and Telecommunication from Assam Engineering College.



Later she did her M. Tech from Birla Institute of Technology and Science following which she joined IAF.
