May 23, 2020: Assam records its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases as 53 persons tested positive on Saturday, the total number of coronavirus cases reached 319.

Reportedly, out of 53 cases, 44 from Sarusajai Quarantine Centre, 7 from Dima Hasao district and 2 from Cachar.

"Alert - Fifty three new #COVID19 cases confirmed - 44 from Sarusajai Quarantine Centre, 7 from Dima Hasao district and 2 from Cachar.", said state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Twitter.

"Total cases 319, Recovered 54, Active cases 258, Deaths 04, Migrated 03" he added.

Among the total people infected as on date, 54 patients have been discharged while 258 patients are currently active cases.

So far, four people have lost their lives.
