August 30, 2020: Echoing what he said a day before, Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma on Sunday reiterated that the state is going to face an acute medical oxygen shortage.

Dr. Sharma said that the demand for oxygen in various hospitals including the Covid care centres has increased manifold due to the increasing Covid cases. As a result, there is a shortfall in the medical oxygen.

He said that a large number of Covid patients require oxygen support for which the demand for oxygen-equipped beds too has increased. To meet this, the Kalapahar and Ayurvedic Hospital Covid centres have been closed for a week to convert them into oxygen facilities.

He said that if the Centre's guideline is followed, the schools in the state can be opened from September 21 onwards. But he informed that the state government has no such plan only the Eleven and Twelve classes will start.
