August 14, 2020: The stage has been set for the celebration of the 74th Independence Day in Assam with curtailed programmes on Saturday. Preparations are underway at the historic Judge's Field for the central programme.





Assam Police and Paramilitary Forces are carrying out full-dress rehearsals at the Judge's Field where the programme will be held after 15 years. However, due to Covid situation, the celebration will be limited. This time, there will be no participation of school children in parade and other cultural programmes.





Ahead of the I-Day, security in and around the has been tightened. All entry and exit points of the city are thoroughly checked. The Judge's Field has also been turned into a security fortress where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will unfurl the tricolour in the presence of VVIPs, freedom fighters and public.





Other ministers too will hoist the tricolour in various districts. The government has relaxed the weekend lockdown across Assam on Saturday from 6 AM to 5 PM for the Independence Day celebration.
