May 8, 2020: Assam has reported eight more positive cases for COVID-19 and one new death with no travel history on Thursday, taking the state's tally to 53 and death toll at 2.

May 8, 2020: Assam has reported eight more positive cases for COVID-19 and one new death with no travel history on Thursday, taking the state's tally to 53 and death toll at 2.



All the new cases have been reported from Guwahati and Silchar.



It may be stated that one of them has come from outside Assam and was on home quarantine. Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl whose family member is worker in Dr. B Barooah Cancer Institute tested positive and died last night.



While a PG student in Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, a health worker from Chandmari locality and one from from Changsari who was already in Sarusajai quarantine centre have tested positive for the virus.



Informing this State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has tweeted that new coronavirus active cases in Assam are now at 18 and 34 people have been discharged.



Earlier four more COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Silchar who came from Azmer, Rajasthan.
