September 1, 2020: The beneficiaries of the "Orunodoi" scheme who will submit false information will have to face legal action. Warning the people not to give false information, finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma said that the benefits of the scheme will be automatically stopped if someone is found giving false information.

"As per the process, the applicant will have to give a self-certificate that a widow/unmarried woman/Divyanga person/ married woman deserted by husband stays lives with him. If at any stage, later it is found that the applicant gave false information, his benefits will be stopped and he will have to face legal action," said Dr. Sharma while replying to a question in the assembly on Tuesday.

The minister further clarified that the money under the scheme will not be deposited into the account of the applicant. "The family will choose a woman in whose account the money will be deposited."

"By September 15, the beneficiaries will be selected. Between September 15-30, the applications will be distributed. From October 2, the scheme will be launched and the amounts will be disbursed. On November 2, the beneficiaries will get the first installment," informed Dr. Sharma.

Dr. Sharma clarified that the scheme is a brainchild of the Assam government and not the replica of Rahul Gandhi's NYAY model. The application process will be completed

Under the scheme, Rs. 830 will be transferred to the accounts of families having widow, unmarried woman, Divyanga person or married woman deserted by husband every month. Those poor women who do not have the free ration card will also get benefit of the scheme.

At least 15,000 to 17,000 families will be benefitted under the scheme. This will cost Rs. 210 crore on the state exchequer every month or Rs.2520 crore every year.
