October 27, 2020: Mizoram government on Monday decided to impose lockdown in the Aizwal Municipal Corporation area, starting from Tuesday 4:30 am till November 3 at 4:30 am, however essentials services will be allowed in the area, according to the government’s statement.



The decision was taken during a meeting tabled by state Health Minister R.Lalthangliana and Home Minister Pu Lalchamliana under the leadership of Chief Minister Zoramthanga.



Mizoram government's Department of Information and Public Relations tweeted to inform regarding the lockdown, "An emergency meeting under the chairmanship of Health Minister and Home Minister held today at MINECO decided to impose lockdown within the AMC area, after obtaining due consent from the Chief Minister. The lockdown will begin at 4:30 am tomorrow till 4:30 am on 3rd Nov 2020."





In a latest development, the state government has decided to shut all schools that were reopened for students of classes 10 and 12 due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases and also because some pupils have tested positive for the infection.



The schools, that were reopened for the students of the two classes on October 16, besides hostels, will remain closed from Monday as the state will observe ‘COVID-19 no tolerance fortnight’.



Mizoram has not reported any fatality due to COVID-19 so far. According to the health department, there are 2527 total cases in the state, including 315 active cases and 2212 recovered patients.
