March 01, 2020: One more person was killed in Meghalaya early on Sunday taking the total number of deaths to three in the ongoing violence between the Khasi Students Union members and non-tribals against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and demand for the imposition of inner line permit (ILP).



 



 



Reportedly, the deceased has been identified as Uphas Uddin, 37, who died after been attacked by three unidentified people at his house in Pyrken village in Shella of East Khasi Hills district.



 



 



 



 



The others deceased persons are namely Rupchand Dewan and Lurshai Hynniewta.



 



 



 



 



Mobile internet services have been suspended in six districts - East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills an South West Khasi hills - of the state from Friday night for 48-hours.



 



 



 



 



Chief Minister Conrad Sangma appealed to citizens to refrain from any kind of violence and ensure that peace is maintained. He announced ex gratia compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
