November 3, 2020: Hundreds of Christian people staged protest in Itanagar on Monday demanding “justice for Tawang church.”

They demanded land allotment for construction of churches in Tawang.

It is to be mentioned that Tawang Revival church pastor Joseph Singhi was arrested by the Tawang police on October 6 on the basis of an FIR lodged by the district land revenue and survey officer, allegedly for illegally constructing the church. He however was later released on bail.

The protesters asserted that they were not in any confrontation with their Buddhist brothers and sisters of Tawang or other parts of the state.

The Christians of Tawang claim that they had established the church in 1999 and had applied for land allotment since then. But the government has not allotted it so far. In Tawang, there is a ban on land allotment and over 200 land allotments had to be cancelled in 2008.
