The state government notification follows a Union Home Ministry ban on bringing in or movement of the vehicle in the country.

The bikes are reportedly made outside the country and are not registered by the Mizoram transport department, a large number of them are brought into the state, especially along the 404-km Mizoram-Myanmar international border in Champhai, Hnahthial, Lawngtlai, Siaha and Serchhip districts.

According to the sources,  large number of drugs, including heroin and methamphetamine, have been seized by Assam Rifles personnel, state excise and narcotics department officials and police from people riding on such bikes. Most of these people smuggled the drugs from outside the country.
